IX Bienal Internacional de Acuarela

On December 5th it was opened in the Museo Nacional de la Acuarela “Alfredo Guati Rojo” (Watercolour National Museum) in Mexico City, the IX Bienal Internacional de Acuarela (IX International Watercolour Biennial).

This Bienal celebrates the World Watercolor Day, that Master Guati Rojo established on November 23rd, 1994.

This Bienal is composed by more than 200 watercolors from several countries and from several associations and groups of artists.

Because the size of this exhibition, it is divided in two parts, the first one running until 9nt of January 2011 showing watercolors from Australia, Bolivia, Brasil, Canadá, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, Spain, US, Estonia, France and México. The second part going up to February 13, 2011 shows watercolors from  Guatemala, Honduras, Italy, Panamá, Perú, República Dominicana, Rusia, Serbia, Uruguay, Venezuela and México.

During the inauguration the soprano Mariamparo Cervantes interpreted five songs in Náhuatl language.
The Museo Nacional de la Acuarela Director, Beatriz Gaminde, noted that this exhibition shows how each country expresses its individuality, and cultural roots present along with these works.

This is one of the six watercolors that will be exhibited as part of the uruguayan watercoloists (ACUA – Asociación Cultural Uruguaya de Acuarelistas) and belongs to the international and well known artist Alvaro Castagnet
