Watercolor Demo in three steps

Watercolors Painting·

Watercolor demo by Fernando Pena

This watercolor shows a scene in Plaza Independencia in Montevideo, Uruguay

We will show the three basic steps to finish this watercolor.

Fist step – The drawing

The first step is the drawing of just the main shapes, not too much detail if we want to paint it loose, otherwise we are tempted to paint lots of details and will lose freshness.

Second step – initial wash

In this step there is an initial wash, background for the whole painting with color and tonal variations. This will add cohesion to the final painting. Wet on wet was used in this stpep.

Third step – the final painting

This is maybe the step that took more time, painting the main shapes, darkest darks and shadows that add luminosity to the painting.

Total time for this three steps about one and a half our.
